Two Million Consoles Have Been Sold In France

Nintendo has succeeded: more than 2 million French households now have a Switch. In the past year alone, 1.1 million consoles have been sold in France, and despite the social movements, the Christmas period was particularly good.

It was during the launch of its hybrid console in March 2017 that the Japanese giant set itself this ambitious goal.

“We have sold 1.13 million switches in 2018, compared to 911,000 in 2017,” says Philippe Lavoué, CEO of Nintendo France, interviewed by Le Figaro.

Five Games In Top 10 Sales

The pace of shopping accelerated during the holiday season: “We were able to make weeks to 100,000 sales, which was the trend during the Wii years.” And this despite the chaotic end of the year linked to the mobilization of “yellow vests”.

“We must salute the resilience of distributors, who supported our products, notes Philippe Lavoué. Some hypermarkets had even set up sales advisers on the shelves. ”

Nintendo has also benefited from shopping from e-commerce sites, despite its pricing dispute with Amazon.

In addition, five of the brand’s games rank among the top 10 best-selling titles in 2018: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (third with 1.2 million sales), Super Mario Party (fifth), Pokémon Let’s Go (seventh), Super Mario Odyssey (eighth) and Super Smash Bros Ultimate (ninth).
